Getting a visa for France

The most crucial thing to do before thinking about moving to France is to obtain your visa. After you get to France you will have 3 months to register at the French immigration office. The visa known as the VLS-TS (Long stay visa which is like a residence permit), is only for workers, students, and spouses of French citizens. This visa runs out every 12 months so you will need to renew it.

The other type of visa if you do not fit into that category is the Type-D long stay visa.

To apply for the visa, you will need: a valid passport, ID photo of you, proof of health insurance, proof of residency in France and proof of financial commitment to support your stay. After 5 years you can then apply for permanent residency.
